The City of Des Plaines is hiring a Management Analyst for the Fire Department—a critical role where your expertise will enhance operations, ensure compliance, and optimize resource allocation.
Expected Starting Salary: $75,800
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze Complex Data: Collect, interpret, and deliver actionable insights on departmental operations, emergency response times, and resource utilization.
- Support Accreditation: Coordinate processes to meet national and state fire department accreditation standards.
- Lead Strategic Initiatives: Develop and oversee the department’s strategic plan, incorporating key performance indicators (KPIs) and community risk assessments.
- Enhance Financial Efficiency: Prepare and manage budgets, conduct GEMT cost reporting, and serve as a liaison for EMS billing.
- Optimize Compliance: Oversee NFIRS/NERIS records, manage ISO documentation, and ensure adherence to fire department policies and safety standards.
- Grant Management: Identify, apply for, and monitor grants, ensuring compliance and effective utilization.
- Leverage Technology: Utilize Microsoft Power BI to develop dashboards and reports for monitoring performance metrics and improving operations.
- Policy Development: Assess and recommend updates to departmental policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and safety.
- Collaborate: Work closely with internal teams, city officials, and community stakeholders to achieve strategic goals.
What We’re Looking For:
- Education: Master’s in public administration, business administration, or a related field (or actively pursuing). Certification in fire department accreditation standards (e.g., CFAI) is a plus.
- Experience: 2+ years in a dynamic, data-focused environment, preferably with knowledge of fire department operations but not required.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (including Power BI); familiarity with ImageTrend and Vector Solutions is preferred.
- Skills: Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication abilities. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
