Fort Atkinson is seeking a dynamic and proven municipal leader who will replace the current city manager who is moving to a larger community. The City is ideally situated between Milwaukee and Madison in southeastern Wisconsin and combines small town charm with big city amenities.  Fort Atkinson has a bustling downtown, business parks, regional parks and trails and is a regional market center. The City is a full service community that prides itself on being a great place to live, work, play, learn and visit as well as for providing high quality municipal services. Starting salary range $95K-$112K plus excellent benefits DOQ.  Council- Manager Government Form with Five Council members elected at large on a non-partisan basis for 2 year terms.  $11.7M General Fund Annual Operating Budget with separate Annual Enterprise Fund Budgets (Sewer, Water, Storm Water and TIF) totaling another $7.4M. 86 FT and 150+PT and seasonal employees. Future emphasis on  City infrastructure projects including DPW facility renovation/construction, WWTP upgrades and re-construction of key Hwy 12 and Hwy 106 corridors; continued successful revitalization of downtown; development of City Business Park;  initiation of  residential development  of 75 acre City-owned property and new retail attraction and development.

Require Master’s Degree in public or business administration or related field with five (5) years of progressive municipal management experience.  ICMA-CM credential desired.  Residency is strongly encouraged. Require a strong skill set in financial management/budgeting (TIF experience a plus); human resources; capital improvement planning and implementation; economic development with an emphasis on downtown/commercial redevelopment and the ability to cultivate positive and productive relationships with the city council, staff and citizens.  The successful candidate should be team builder in addressing community issues and problems; have a collaborative style in carrying out Council policies; have a high level of both professional and personal integrity; possess acute listening skills; have a strong commitment to public service and have a history of stable tenures in previous positions (the community has had only eight city managers since 1931 when the current form of government was initiated).  The next Fort Atkinson city manager will inherit a strong and talented team of local government professional s.
