Assistant Finance Director
The City of West Chicago is seeking an Assistant Finance Director to assist the Finance Director with a variety of accounting, payroll, budget preparation, supervision, records management, auditing, and other operational functions. The Assistant Finance Director will, under the direction of the Finance Director:
- Oversee the timely recording of financial accounting transactions daily, including ledgers, financial records and reports, as well as various monthly bank reconciliations, and revenue and expense posting.
- Oversee and ensure the accuracy of various accounting records, processes and transactions related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, utility billing, payroll records, monthly and quarterly payroll filings, and filing of W-2s and 1099’s.
- Develop and implement new or improved accounting practices and procedures and ensure adherence to reporting requirements and standards, including the implementation of GASB pronouncements.
- Coordinates and oversees all facets of the annual audit, including grant reporting and the balancing, capitalization, and reporting of the City’s Capital Assets.
- Directly supervise five employees, assign and direct work, monitor productivity, establish performance standards, provide feedback and assess performance and development.
- Serve as the Finance Department Executive Safety Committee liaison.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with major course work in accounting, business or a closely related field. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and familiarity with governmental accounting standards board (GASB) standards and guidance.
- Minimum two years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to foster and maintain positive relationships throughout the organization.
- Ability to exercise professional independent judgement, prioritize and multi-task to meet objectives and established deadlines.
- Ability to foster engagement, solicit input from others and facilitate a collaborative work environment.
The salary range for this position is $111,877 – $156,629 with an anticipated starting salary of $111,877 – $134,200 dependent upon experience and qualifications. The City of West Chicago offers a robust health and wellness package in addition to participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
