REPORTS TO: ASSESSOR, CHIEF DEPUTY ASSESSOR

This is a full-time position with the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5 :00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., on Friday. The expected salary range for this is position $50,000- $62,500 DOQ. The township offers full health benefits, IMRF pension, vacation, sick, paid holidays and one floating holiday a year.
FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Assessor and the Chief Deputy Assessor, provides assessment information and real estate tax-related assistance to the Township residents and the general public.
REQUIREMENTS: Ability to handle multiple tasks and to work independently. Ability to work well with community members and a variety of individuals. Agree and commit to taking required classes through the Illinois Property Assessment Institute and the Illinois Department of Revenue to obtain CIAO designation within a time frame established ty the Ela Township Assessor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma required. Minimum of two years office experience. Computer experience required, including Microsoft Office applications. Community involvement and/or knowledge of Township Government a plus.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform all responsibilities and duties as assigned by the assessor or designee, which include, but are not limited to, the following list:
- Assist homeowners at the front counter and incoming calls for all their requests.
- Assist homeowners by entering General Homestead, Senior Homestead, Senior Freeze, Disabled Persons, and Veterans Disabled exemptions into the Tyler system
- Review evidence submitted for all recent residential appeals, send offers via email to the homeowners/representatives, and create the Board of Review change requests in IASworld. Review residential appeals, select sales or uniformity comparable properties, and create grids as evidence to support the assessment. If a change in the assessed value is needed or not. Prepare evidence for the scheduled Board of Review hearings.
- Assist residents in identifying and correcting property description errors.
- Provide residents and or municipalities with property ownership information for zoning hearings.
- Accept new permit reports from all municipalities- print and prepare field permit reports for field visits
- Communicate with building and zoning departments for permit related inquiries, paperwork, questions and follow ups.
- Perform field inspections of properties on a when needed basis, and provide photos, notes and measurements while comparing/updating property information cards out in the field or in the computer system, IMS.
- Coordinate all paperwork related to the annual assessment appeal through IASworld printing all appeals and supporting evidence, filing in appropriate order and organizing appeal hearing dates.
- Filing all processed appeals and property files
- Complete special projects as required by the Assessor’s office.
- Be able to walk and stand for long periods of time when performing inspections, occasionally in inclement weather.
