The Village of Carol Stream, Illinois, seeks a motivated, customer-oriented individual for the position of Assistant Planner within the Community Development Department. This full-time position will provide professional municipal planning and zoning review, primarily related to the administration of the Village’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). More specifically, this position is responsible for the review of zoning and building permit applications and business registration applications, as well as the inspection of properties for compliance with development approvals and the processing of zoning enforcement cases. In addition, this position completes research and analysis projects and data entry work within the Village’s Geographic Information System.
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of planning and zoning principals within a municipal environment as well as the ability to listen, write and speak effectively. The ability to work independently as well as to collaborate with others inside and outside of the department is essential.
Qualified individuals must possess the following:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture or related field;
- A minimum of one year of experience, preferably in municipal planning and zoning administration; (internship experience accepted)
- Possession of a valid Illinois Driver’s License;
- Knowledge in the use of computer applications including MS Word, Excel and Outlook; familiarity with GIS a plus.
Any combination of training, education and experience equivalent to that enumerated above will be considered.
Starting salary for this position is $63,946. Excellent benefit package provided including health (80% employer paid), dental, life and IMRF pension system. Selection process consists of applicant review following deadline, with panel interview of selected candidates.
