The Building Inspector performs a variety of routine, complex, and technical work related to commercial and residential building and plumbing inspections and plan reviews during various stages of construction and remodeling to ensure that the standards, rules, and regulations of the Illinois Plumbing Code and Village Municipal Codes are met. The Inspector also examines plans and specifications of new construction, additions, and alterations to residential and commercial buildings to determine compliance with the provisions of applicable local, state, and federal construction codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
The position requires a high school diploma or GED and a sufficient number of years field experience in residential and commercial settings as an Illinois licensed plumber in order to obtain IDPH Plumbing Inspector certification within 12 months of hire. A valid State of Illinois Driver’s License and IDPH Plumbing License is required upon hire. Experience as a municipal plumbing inspector is preferred.
The successful candidate must demonstrate appropriate and effective communication skills and have the ability to exercise critical thinking, problem solving, sound judgement, initiative, professionalism, and safety.
