Village of Glendale Heights, Planning and Economic Development Manager

PLANNING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Performs a variety of routine and complex technical work in the current and/or long-range planning of the Village, economic development, and the development and implementation of land use and related zoning regulations including building permit review, development review.  This position also oversees the Operations Division, including customer service, records management and policy development.

This position will also:

  • Supervises clerical staff.
  • Provide information on land use and zoning applications, ordinances, codes, plans and related planning programs, services or regulations to architects, engineers, developers, contractors, owners, community groups and interested persons.
  • Solicits new development and business opportunities to enhance economic development within the Village.
  • Assist in communicating official plans, programs, policies and procedures to staff and the general public.
  • Reviews applications for annexation, zoning, subdivision and land development for conformity with the principles of good planning and compliance with local ordinances.
  • Evaluate land use proposals for conformity to established plans and ordinances and development impact as it relates to the adopted plans of the Village.
  • Evaluates building permit applications and site plans for compliance with applicable local codes and ordinances including but not limited to zoning regulations, landscape requirements and lighting regulations.
  • Qualifications for this position include graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in land use planning, urban planning, administration or related field; Master’s Degree Preferred, three to five (3-5) years experience in municipal planning and zoning; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, additional experience substituting on a year for year basis for the required education.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range is $79,996.80 – $101,108.80 commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Village of Glendale Heights offers a generous health and dental benefits package to full-time employees.

Selection process includes panel interview with the top qualified candidates based on application ranking of qualifications.  Final candidate must successfully complete a criminal background check, and pre-employment drug screen.  All job offers are conditional upon the satisfactory outcome of pre-employment drug testing and submission of fingerprints for a complete background investigation. Employees are required to have their permanent residency within a 15-mile radius of the Village, unless an exception is approved by the Village Administrator.
