Village of Glendale Heights, Wastewater Operator

The Village of Glendale Heights has a position available for one (1) Wastewater Operator at the Wastewater Treatment Plant  (WWTP) of the Public Works Department.

This position works under the direct supervision of the Lead Operator, Foreman and Divisional Manager, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation, maintenance and repair of the wastewater treatment facilities and systems.  Maintains a variety of Village and IEPA records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, and repairs, work completed, etc. conducts process control and IEPA required laboratory analysis. Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment, such as snowplow and de-icing truck, vactor jetter/vactor truck, front end loader, forklift, and backhoe/loader.  Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time, work safely, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.

Previous experience in a Municipality Wastewater Facility is preferred.  Electrical Certification, NIMS Certification, and wastewater certificates acquired from SIU or Sacramento University desirable.  This position requires to be on-call for emergencies out of regular work hours on a periodic basis throughout the year.

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and two (3) years of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  Applicants with wastewater plant and collection system operational experience and an Illinois Class 3 or higher Wastewater Operators license is required.

Valid State Driver’s license, with CDL Class-B (or the ability to obtain CDL Class-B within 6 months of hire date)..  This is a Teamsters union position.

Salary Range: $28.39 – $38.33 hourly.  This position will also be compensated an additional $1.50 an hour above the current rate of pay.
