Village of Grayslake, Planner/Development Coordinator

The Village planner/development coordinator is instrumental in performing the administrative functions of planning and development project coordination.

The coordinator’s major responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Administrative functions in planning and development project coordination including, but not limited to, responding to phone and e-mail inquiries, report compilations, databases usage and development processing in accordance with ordinances and established procedures.
  • Direct contact with commercial, industrial/residential developers, existing businesses, and other development applicants.
  • Serving as liaison to Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals and preparing meeting materials, development applications, and for other planning matters (land use/zoning related requests/subdivisions/etc.) as needed.
  • Member of the Village development team to facilitate development project progress in the approval process and through construction.
  • Assisting in the negotiation and preparation of agreements with land owners and developers as needed.
  • Reviewing ordinances and policies and making recommendations when changes or amendments to zoning or development related ordinances are deemed necessary for the best outcomes.
  • Support the Village’s economic development program.
  • Preparation of various reports, studies, and other research. Special projects and assignments as required.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in public administration or urban planning (master’s degree in one of these focus areas is a plus); 3-5 years’ experience in municipal government; knowledge of municipal procedures and processes; and of typical zoning standards/principles used in the subdivision of land and for other development projects, and real estate development; Excellent verbal and written communication skills and researching experience; May be required to work non-traditional hours for attendance at Village meetings or appointments for Village business.  The position reports directly to the Village Manager.

Starting pay range for this position is $70,000 – $94,000 DOQ.  Starting salary will depend on experience and qualifications.  A competitive benefits package is provided for this full-time position.
