Village of Hanover Park, Water Supply Operator


$28.22 PER HOUR


Performs daily visual inspection of all water treatment machinery, equipment and control panels. Makes adjustments to control pressure and flow of water to the distribution system.   Changes chlorine tanks and adjusts chlorination amount.

Performs daily maintenance activities to ensure optimum operating efficiency.  Repairs and maintains or replaces malfunctioning pumps, motors, air compressors, valves, flow meters, gauges, chlorination and other plant equipment.  Records any such repairs in activity log.

Assists in repairing minor plumbing and electrical problems.  Replaces broken and leaking pipes. Replaces blown fuses and switches and repairs faulty circuitry.

Responds to customer complaints concerning water problems and/or quality in home; such as water pressure, air in the water and a chlorine odor or taste in the water.   Takes samples and tests for chlorination.  Delivers samples to laboratory by Village vehicle if further tests are required.

Gathers water samples from throughout the distribution system (from residents’ homes, well sites and fire hydrants) for laboratory tests and copper and lead analysis.   Delivers samples to laboratory by Village vehicle.

Maintains daily log of operations such as maintenance performed and equipment replaced or adjusted, reads and records amounts of water pumped and chlorine added to system.   Submits all operational data to supervisor.

Accurately interprets the test data when received from laboratory.



Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and two (2) years of technical experience as a licensed water supply operator in a municipal water system; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Operator-in-Training license may be considered for hire with other experience.


Must possess the following certifications and/or licenses: an Illinois EPA Class “C” Public Water Supply Operator’s License or be able to attain a license within 1 year, and possession of a valid Illinois commercial driver’s license (CDL) class B vehicle license with an Air Brake endorsement or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
