Village of Homewood, Code Compliance Inspector

The Village of Homewood was incorporated in 1893 and operates under the statutory Council-Manager form of Government (65 ILCS 5/5-3-6). The corporate authorities include the Village President (Mayor), the Village Clerk, and six (6) Village Trustees, each of whom is elected at large to a four-year term.

Under the general direction of the Fire Chief and Chief Building Inspector, the Code Compliance Inspector is responsible for inspecting properties to ensure that the properties are in compliance with Village codes, ordinances, and policies.  The position investigates and documents property maintenance issues and violations, and provides a timeline for the property owners to correct the issues; thus, bringing the property into compliance with Village codes, ordinances, and policies. Assists with the administration of the Village’s Code Enforcement program by investigating and documenting property maintenance violations, nuisance complaints, and quality of life issues. Follows up on citizen complaints; establishing compliance plans and conducting daily site inspections.  Includes extensive interaction with the public; report writing; and preparing for and providing testimony in court or other administrative proceedings. Provides real-time input and feedback to enhance the Village’s Code Compliance processes and procedures.  Serves as an ambassador to the Village by delivering fair and equitable customer service to residents, business owners, and other municipal stakeholders.

Currently, the Village is hiring for two (2) Part-time Code Compliance Inspectors. The position is anticipated to work 20 hours per week.

The Building Division is looking for a motivated and personable professional with municipal experience in a building or fire department.  The candidate should have experience in serving and engaging the general public, customers, and/or stakeholders. The successful candidate must possess a high school diploma or GED; an ICC Property Maintenance Code Certification is preferred but not required. If the candidate does not have the code certification at the time of hire, the candidate must successfully obtain the Property Maintenance Code Certification within one years after their hire date. The successful candidate must be proficient in MS Office applications and general office technology.

The starting hourly rate for the position is $25.00.
