Current Open Position -Combination Plumbing/Building Inspector
The Village of Huntley, a vibrant, growing community of approximately 30,000 residents located in southern McHenry County and northern Kane County, is seeking applicants for the position of Building Inspector in the Development Services Department.
Located along the I-90 corridor, Huntley has experienced in excess of $321 million in new construction activity since 2020. Construction activity is expected to remain strong in future years and includes new residential, commercial and industrial development.
General Duties: Under the general direction of Building Official, this position is responsible for inspecting commercial and residential construction and property maintenance to ensure all work complies with current plumbing and building codes and ordinances. This is accomplished by enforcing plumbing related codes; performing on site-inspections; meeting with contractors, builders and homeowners; enforcing codes; reviewing plans; and performing other related duties as assigned. Additional duties include assisting customers with building permits, responding to complaints regarding construction and code violations and researching applicable code requirements.
Requirements: Qualified candidate must be an Illinois licensed plumber and Illinois Certified Plumbing Inspector. Must have thorough knowledge of local codes and ordinances, State plumbing code, national model codes, accepted practices and principals related to plumbing systems, and property maintenance codes. Essential position requirements include the ability to physically conduct field inspections, effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, to interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner, and the ability to prioritize, organize, and complete required duties timely and accurately. Candidate must be detail oriented, flexible, and a team player. The ideal candidate will possess a working knowledge of web-based computer software programs, and should be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
Compensation: Competitive salary, with the starting pay depending upon qualifications. Hours: Forty (40) hours per week, Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
