Village of Mount Prospect, Director of Community and Economic Development

Mount Prospect (pop. 56,852) is located 23 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and hosts a station along the Metra Union Pacific Northwest commuter train line. Minutes away from O’Hare International and Chicago Executive airports, the Village’s southernmost boundary is Interstate 90. The Village is home to a mix of major commercial centers including Randhurst Village, high quality industrial parks such as Kensington Business Center, and local business found along major commercial corridors Elmhurst Road (IL Route 83), Golf Road (IL Route 58), and Rand Road (US Route 12).

The Village is seeking a dynamic leader for our next Director of Community and Economic Development who will perform highly responsible professional and administrative work and direct all phases of activities of the Village’s Community Development Planning & Zoning and Economic Development Division. The incumbent will be responsible for major program areas including development entitlement process, planning, supervision of the Village’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, interpreting regulations included within the Village’s Zoning Code, managing staff and the department budget. This position is a member of the Village’s Leadership Team and reports directly to the Village Manager.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in Planning, Economic Development or Public Administration (or a related field); AICP accreditation is preferred; a minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in municipal planning, with at least three years in a supervisory/management position, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Excellent verbal, written, communication and public presentation skills is essential to explain concepts to a wide variety of stakeholders. Must be detail-oriented, and be able to create and maintain accurate documentation and records.

The full salary range is $125,966 – $180,000 annually; starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits include IMRF pension, sick, personal and vacation time, comprehensive health plans, life insurance, Retirement Health Savings, and 457 retirement plan.
