The Village of Northbrook seeks an energetic individual to join its team of Fleet Mechanics that service the fleet of passenger vehicles, light and heavy duty trucks, construction equipment, Police vehicles, and Fire apparatus. The Village’s Fleet Mechanics are the engine behind the operations of the Village, helping to keep the other departments and divisions on the road and serving the residents of Northbrook.
Duties of the Fleet Mechanics vary depending on the vehicles to be repaired but generally include diagnosing mechanical, structural, and electrical problems on vehicles and equipment, identifying the necessary parts to complete repairs, operating a variety of electronic, pneumatic and handheld tools to complete repairs, fabricates parts by welding or carpentry, respond to emergencies in the shop and in the field after hours as needed. Fleet Mechanics may also be called on to snow plow or respond to other emergencies as needed.
Candidates will have their ASE Master Mechanic certifications or the ability to obtain such within one year of employment, an Illinois Class “B” CDL drivers’ license or the ability to obtain one, and their own hand tools. Position is non-exempt with opportunities for overtime as needed by the department (per the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150).
