Hiring Range: $17/ hour to $20/ hour, Depending on Qualifications

Range of the Position/ Grade: $14/hour to $30/hour   / Grade 125

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt – Full-time – SEASONAL

Location: Village Hall, 1225 Cedar Ln., Northbrook, IL 60062

The position is designed to offer undergraduate or graduate students the opportunity to perform a variety of entry level professional administrative, research analysis, and project management support to the Village Manager’s Office. The Management Intern supports the Department in routine administrative functions and special projects by analyzing and interpreting complex or ambiguous data in order to develop recommendations, providing detailed program and data analysis, and drafting reports and presentations. The intern will gain exposure to local government through interaction in the Village Manager’s Office and with various departments. The duties of the Management Intern are designed to prepare the incumbent for a successful career in the local government field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and Analysis: Conducts research and detailed program analysis, developing recommendations based on industry trends and best practices.
  • Report Drafting: Drafts staff reports and presentations for review by the Assistant to the Village Manager or Deputy Village Manager.
  • Resident Inquiries: Responds to resident inquiries and resolves issues in a timely manner within the assigned scope of responsibility.
  • Event Planning: Assists in planning and hosting Village-sponsored events such as the Northbrook Grand Prix and Fourth of July Festivities.
  • Permit Review: Reviews raffle permit and public forum requests, forwarding them for further review.
  • Commission Liaison: Serves as co-liaison to the Village’s Community Commission, fostering communication and collaboration.
  • FOIA Support: Assists in responding to Freedom of Information Act requests in a timely and complete manner.
  • Content Creation: Contributes to the creation of print newsletters, e-newsletters, and social media posts by drafting content.
  • Administrative Support: Performs routine administrative tasks to support the daily functions of the department.
  • Evolving Responsibilities: Adapts to evolving responsibilities as needed to meet the department’s changing needs.
  • Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned, with essential duties evolving over time to support the department.

Must haves for the ideal candidate include:

  • High school diploma, supplemented by a completion of a minimum of 48 college level credit hours.
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License
  • Good written and oral communication skills
