Village of Oak Brook, Maintenance Worker

JOB SUMMARY:  The Village of Oak Brook Public Works Department seeks Maintenance Worker I candidates. Under supervision of the Supervisor/Lead Worker, the incumbent performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair and installation of Village equipment, systems, facilities and sites. Normal hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.  After hour tasks and emergency situations require ability to work beyond normal business hours.

 

The ideal candidate will be coachable and possess a positive attitude, willingness to learn, ability to clearly communicate and fit into a team environment– a key to the Department’s success.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, but are not limited to:

  • Perform maintenance and repairs to Village water and storm sewers, roads, bike pathways, facilities, landscaping, forestry, recreational properties and equipment
  • Safely and efficiently work with hand tools and mechanical equipment and vehicles
  • Properly use computer technology for email, spreadsheets, GIS mapping and databases
  • Perform snow and ice removal
  • Communicate effectively; Follow verbal and written direction
  • Function effectively in emergency situations
  • Maintain and repair water lines, valves, hydrants, water wells and facilities; install and replace water mains, valves, hydrants and service lines
  • Maintain and repair sewer laterals, mains, lift stations; install and replace sewer laterals and mains
  • Maintain and repair streets: pothole patching, asphalt repairs; concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks; striping, signage and lighting
  • Repair and install irrigation systems and landscaping
  • Perform tasks for extended periods and in unfavorable weather conditions; Perform heavy manual labor
  • Read and interpret drawings and blueprints
  • Operate and maintain equipment, power tools, and construction equipment such as dump trucks, front-end loader, backhoe, grader, tractors, compressor, jack hammer, and concrete saw
  • Perform after-hours emergency work and on-call duties on a rotating basis.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license at time of hire
  • Valid Illinois CDL Class A driver’s license or ability to obtain within 180 days
  • Excellent driving record
  • Ability to work in inclement weather; be physically fit to lift, stand, stoop, kneel
  • One year direct municipal experience or other public agency in public works or maintenance is preferred
