Our Development Services department currently seeks a highly motivated, mature, responsible, detail-oriented individual to join the Building Division as a full time Electrical/Building Inspector. The Electrical/Building Inspector performs skilled inspection work in assuring compliance with the Village related codes and ordinances pertaining to building construction, alteration, or repair and zoning. This position is represented by IBEW Local 134.

Key Responsibilities
This essential role inspects all building construction and alteration in progress for conformance to building code regulations and requirements; in case of non-conformity, stops construction until all defects are corrected; reviews electrical and building plans and drawings submitted to code enforcement to determine compliance with village codes and ordinances; inspects construction in progress and completed installations for workmanship and use of proper materials and methods; inspects business for possible violations prior to issuance of annual business license; confers with supervisor on difficult enforcement problems; and investigates building and zoning complaints from general public and other departments and advises to possible solutions.
Additionally, this position prepares reports and maintains records of work performed, provides verbal and written interpretations on the electrical, building and mechanical code, and performs other duties as assigned or as required.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Some college or trade coursework is preferred. Two (2) years of experience preferred, but not necessary. The ideal candidate will be a responsible team player, with the ability to read and interpret documents such as electrical, building, mechanical, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups of employees or customers of the organization; work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry; solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardizations exist; and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Must hold a current valid electrical license from an approved agency and or equivalent ICC electrical certifications. The ability to be cross trained for different types of inspections and receive additional ICC certification within one (1) year of hire date is required.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range for this IBEW position is 74,346.06 – $102,653.62 per year (depending on qualifications). The Village of Orland Park offers a comprehensive employee benefits program which includes medical, dental, vision and life insurance, in addition to an employee wellness program. Retirement benefits through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) are provided along with the option to participate in a 457(b) plan with Nationwide.
