The Village of Oswego offers an excellent opportunity for a creative, passionate planner to join our team in a growing community. The next Planner will have the opportunity to work on downtown developments, greenfield and in-fill subdivision development, and setting the stage for what Oswego will be in the future.
An ideal candidate will bring innovative ideas to planning, demonstrate a willingness to work with developers and landowners to balance their concepts with the Village’s regulations, and have a strong desire to work as a member of the team. Strong project management skills and a thorough understanding of land use principles are required. Experience with historic preservation and environmental issues a plus.
The Village of Oswego is in a period of tremendous growth, with new subdivisions, new business construction and prime opportunities for downtown development. The next Planner will have the opportunity to be a key component of all of these projects. This position is responsible for planning activities involving both current development and long-range planning. Duties include serving as a project manager for developments; preparing written project analysis and recommendations; conducting site inspections; providing staff assistance to various committees; and working with developers, business owners and residents.

Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning or a closely related field; a master’s degree or previous Urban Planning, Comprehensive Planning, Zoning and/or Site Plan review preferred. Excellent computer, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
