The Village of Peotone, IL seeks qualified candidates for Chief of Police. The Village of Peotone (pop. 4,200) is a community of 1.87 sq. miles located in Will County, IL (West of Beecher, South of Monee, and East of Wilmington). Peotone is approximately 43 miles Southwest of Chicago.
Peotone is staffed by 12 full-time Police Officers, and one non-sworn administrative assistant. The Police Chief is appointed by, and reports to, the Mayor.
Candidates must possess unquestioned integrity, thorough knowledge of modern police administration, and, proven management and leadership skills. Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining effective relationships with public safety partners, village departments, business community and a citizen-oriented philosophy, with a focus on community involvement.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree, Ten (10+) years of progressively responsible command and supervisory experience, preferably in a municipal, county, or state police agency. Experience in a collective bargaining agency setting is required as is experience in developing and overseeing a budget. Master’s degree and/or completion of a nationally recognized advanced law enforcement administration course is a plus.
IL police officer certification or ability to obtain certification within six months is required.
Salary range $100,000 – $110,000 DOQ, including a competitive benefits package.
A select number of finalist candidates may be invited to interviews with the Mayor and Village Board.
