About the Role:

As Assistant to the Village Manager/Development Services Director, you will play a key role in the Village’s leadership team. Responsibilities Include:

Development Services Director: Lead the Village’s community development functions by supervising the Village’s outsourced building services consultant and facilitating the process for zoning and development approvals. You will play a primary role in the economic development planning for the Village by leading efforts to attract and retain businesses.

Special Projects and Management: Take the helm on the implementation of various projects and programs related to administration and community development including the establishment of new programs including a proactive code enforcement program and rental inspections program. You will also manage the Village’s contract and relationship with our Information Technology consultant and Building Services consultant.

Collaborative Leadership: Work closely with the leadership of Village Departments including Public Works, Police, and Finance on various projects and processes including long-term planning, data analysis, purchasing, and interdepartmental coordination.

Village Leadership and Representation: Act as Village Manager in their absence and represent the Village in meetings with stakeholders within the community and region. You will also serve as the primary staff liaison for the Village’s Planning and Zoning Commission.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, or a related field. A master’s degree is desired.
  • Knowledge of economic development practices and business attraction and retention experience.
  • Knowledge of local government administration and best practices.
  • Experience with land use planning, annexation agreements, planned unit developments, and special financing districts.
  • Experience with Consultant and Contract management.
  • 2-5 years of experience in local government administration. Experience as a management analyst, planner, or other similar position is preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Effective Leadership and Communication skills are critical as you will deal with a variety of stakeholders from Village employees and elected officials to residents, businesses, and developers.
  • Must possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to attend Village meetings and occasional special events.

Salary and Benefits:

The starting salary range is $70,000 – $90,000 (DOQ). The Village offers an excellent benefits package, including participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, health, dental, vision, and life insurance.
