Economic Developer
The Village of Savoy (population 8,857) is looking for a self-starting, personable, reliable, business-minded, and results-oriented candidate to serve as the Village’s first Economic Developer. The Village has tremendous existing and future growth potential and is anchored by a strong desire to stimulate and cultivate its business ecosystem. This position will focus on building authentic and constructive relationships with current businesses and on attracting new businesses which complement and support the Village’s economy.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Two to three years of experience in administering, or functionally operating:
- Economic development initiatives in public, private, or public-private partnership capacities.
- Tax increment finance districts.
- Business retention and expansion programs.
- Business attraction efforts.
- Two to three years of experience operating within the economic development industry for public entities, chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, utilities, or private entities.
- Two to three years of demonstrated progressively responsible professional experience in local or regional economic development, planning, commercial real estate, or community development, with experience in implementing successful economic development projects.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Must possess, and subsequently maintain, a valid Illinois driver’s license.
- Relevant combination of experience and education may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in business, urban planning, real estate, public administration, finance, or marketing.
- Have, or be in the process of obtaining one, or more, of the following:
- Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) certification through the International Economic Development Council.
- Entrepreneurship Development Professional (EDP) certification through the International Economic Development Council.
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification through the American Planning Association.
- Successful completion of the Economic Development Institute offered through Oklahoma University.
- Applicable certifications from recognized industry organizations (i.e., planning, economic development, project management professional, real estate, etc.).
- Five or more years of demonstrated progressively responsible professional experience in local or regional economic development, planning, commercial real estate, or community development, with substantial experience in leading successful economic development projects.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a salaried, full-time, and exempt position, with benefits, which reports to the Community and Economic Development Director. The salary range for this position is $55,000 to $90,000, depending on qualifications. Additionally, the Village offers free individual membership to the Village’s Recreation Center and offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid vacation; sick leave; holiday pay; individual life insurance; 100% employer-paid employee health, dental, and vision insurance (employee pays 50% for dependents); and enrollment in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund. Village residency is preferred but not required.
