Community Oriented Policing Supervisor (Police Department)

STARTING SALARY RANGE:  $83,774.46 – $102,623.72 annually dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is $83,774.46 – $121,472.98.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for data analysis, project coordination, and administrative work designed to ensure crime prevention, nuisance abatement, community relations, and crisis intervention activities are evidence-based, data-driven, highly coordinated, and aligned with the police department’s mission, vision, and goals. These responsibilities will aid department personnel in the development and ongoing administration of a variety of programs, services, and strategies. This position is also responsible for the development and implementation of crime prevention and community relations programs and events; serving as liaison between the police department, various community groups, and other village departments; assisting in the planning, coordination, and execution of operations, thus freeing top management for more in-depth and specialized work.

 

Work assignments require public relations and analytical skills performed under minimal supervision. Assigned projects may deal with unique situations that arise in the village, sensitive or confidential issues, potential changes in department policies, or large-scale projects that require interdepartmental and external cooperation and coordination. This position is required to collect, analyze, and disseminate data and reports efficiently and effectively using computer databases for usage by department members to further the efforts in providing police services and properly deploying resources.   To succeed in this role, applicants will need to effectively and clearly communicate to a full range of people inside and outside the organization, and be capable of managing and prioritizing multiple projects and tasks with thoroughness and accuracy.

 

JOB DUTIES:

  1.  Analyzes data and identifies trends to assist Patrol Division and Quality-of-Life Division managers in developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies for enhanced service delivery through intelligence-led problem-solving activities and efficient resource allocation.
    2.    Coordinates and manages community initiatives, programs, and events.
    3.    Supervises Police Auxiliary Officers and other staff assigned to the Quality-of-Life Division.
    4.    Collaborates with Beat Coordinators, Community Enrichment Officers, Police Social Workers, Law Enforcement Data Analyst, and other personnel to ensure efficient and effective crime prevention, crisis intervention, nuisance abatement, and other problem-solving initiatives.
    5.    Creates reports for various data analytic initiatives to assist with monitoring and evaluating department procedures. Designs systems and procedures within the position’s discretion and expertise to increase effectiveness, efficiency, and economy of work processes.
    6.    Conducts long and short-range research studies to assist management decision-making and develops recommendations regarding new and modified programs.
    7.    Assists with identifying, acquiring, and managing grants associated with community policing, crime prevention, officer wellness, crisis intervention, and related topics.
    8.    Assists with budget management.
    9.    Oversees activities involving outside consultants.
    10.    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Assists the Public Information Officer with media relations.  Serves on various committees, attends workshops and seminars, and participates in interdepartmental, intradepartmental, and multijurisdictional events and activities.  Assists with department recruiting initiatives.


QUALIFICATIONS:
1.    Bachelor’s degree in analytics, business management, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field.
2.    A minimum of three years of responsible analytical or technical experience related to law enforcement.
3.    A minimum of one year of supervisory experience coordinating a range of activities undertaken by others that involve directing, monitoring, and evaluating the performance of staff.
4.    Possession of a valid driver’s license.
5.    Proficiency with current computer technology, job-specific software, and customer service systems.
