Village of Schiller Park, Maintenance Worker

The Full-time Maintenance Worker performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and repair work for the Public Works Department and will report to the Dept Foreman. Operation of various equipment that could include non-vehicular equipment (i.e., chain saws, welding torches); driving/operating dump trucks for hauling materials, snow plowing and salt spreading; perform preventive maintenance checks of vehicles and equipment – may assist the mechanic for maintenance and repairs; assists in repair/cleaning water and sewer lines if needed;  including but not limited to grass mowing, grounds maintenance; clean/repair tools, equipment; unload trucks, detach and store related equipment; called to work on 24-hour basis in emergency situations; provide effective, efficient customer service.

Graduation from high school or GED, other applicable training programs a plus; 1-3 years’ experience in construction or maintenance; knowledge of safe and effective operation and maintenance of equipment/tools; must possess valid IL Commercial driver’s license or be able to attain 3 months after hire; should maintain effective team working relationships; frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs., and occasionally more than 100 lbs. with assistance; should possess vision and hearing acuity; and will require personal protective equipment (PPE), which will be required to utilize appropriately. This is a union position, and includes a full benefit package. The union scale for this position starts at $53,171 annually.
