Village of Skokie, Planning Manager

The Village of Skokie, IL is seeking qualified candidates for the position of full time Planning Manager. Under general supervision of the Community Development Director, the Planning Manager performs work of considerable difficulty in the direction, coordination, and supervision of professional Village planning and community development activities and related work; Directs and coordinates the work of the Planning Coordinator and support staff in the Planning Division; Prepares, updates and maintains the Comprehensive Plan and related sector plans; Coordinates the scheduling of cases and prepares reports for the Plan Commission; Conducts planning studies related to the development and redevelopment of the Village; Analyzes and distributes Census data; Acts as a representative of the Village at public meetings as well as on major public and private planning projects; Recommends policies and procedures for the operation of the Planning Division; Reviews site plans for landscaping and general conformance with the Zoning Chapter of the Village Code; Recommends amendments to the Zoning and Subdivision Chapters of the Village Code; Involved in the preparation of reports for the Block Grant Program; Supervises the maintenance of documents and records for the Planning Division as well as the review and recording of plats; Coordinates with Economic Development Division on potential projects; Writes grant applications for Federal and State programs; Prepares the Planning Division and Plan Commission/Zoning Board budgets; Performs other duties, as assigned.


Master’s degree in urban or regional planning, public administration or closely related field required, along with five years professional experience in city planning or community development AND two years of supervisory experience; Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration, planning and community development; Good knowledge of state and local laws and ordinances affecting community development; Considerable skill in analyzing complex urban problems and the preparation of reports & budgets; Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite applications; Valid Driver’s License required.


The salary range for this position is $88,213 – $112,584.  The annualized starting salary range is $88,213 – $97,254 (DOQ).
