Village of Streamwood, Maintenance Worker

The Village of Streamwood is accepting applications for the position of full-time Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Department. This position is responsible for performing unskilled and semi-skilled work in a variety of public works and public lands maintenance activities. Work involves responsibility for performing a variety of maintenance duties in the care and upkeep of streets, sewers, water lines, public lands, public buildings, and other facilities.  Performs heavy, physical labor, often with the use of a pick and shovel.

 

Employees must live within the following boundaries within 12 months of hire: Those portions of the State of Illinois east of Route 39/51, north of US Route 30, and west of Lake Michigan. Qualifications for this position are a High School graduate or equivalent, or one to three years’ experience, or combination of education and experience; valid Illinois driver’s license, and ability to receive an Illinois CDL driver’s license within 180 days of employment; ability to perform and withstand heavy physical labor; ability to pass a police background check and physical exam including drug screen.  You must meet all these qualifications to be eligible to take the written examination. Starting salary $53,556 ($54,985 as of January 1, 2024, with a top salary of $85,538). Applications will be accepted until Noon, Thursday, January 11, 2024. Applications must be received by this deadline to be eligible to take the Civil Service Examination and must reflect the attainment of the required qualifications. The Streamwood Civil Service Commission will be preparing a two-year eligibility list which will be used to hire for this position for a two-year period. Only those people appearing on the eligibility list can be considered for this position during this two-year period. The A Civil Service written examination will be held for this position on Thursday, January 25, 2024.
