Annual Compensation:
$61,318.40 – $83,033.60 per year ($29.48 – $39.92 per hour), starting wage dependent on experience.
Position Overview:
The Village of Westchester Public Works department is seeking a full-time Laborer to join our team! The Laborer is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the Village’s infrastructure related to streets, water distribution systems, sanitary/storm water systems, and snow removal.
Under the general supervision of the Public Works Foreman, the Laborer operates a diverse range of heavy and small trucks, equipment, machinery and tools to perform duties including but not limited to: loading, hauling, and unloading materials and supplies; cleaning and repairing sanitary and storm sewer systems; operating, maintaining, and repairing water distribution systems; paving and patching asphalt; constructing concrete structures such as sidewalks, ramps, curbs, gutters, and drainage structures; repairing and replacing street signs; performing snow removal and salting operations; completing parkway landscaping such as tree removals, trimming, and plantings as well as dirt-and-seed restorations; assisting with event setup and cleanup; and providing operational support as needed.
Additionally, the ideal candidate for this position possesses the flexibility and accessibility to work overtime as needed and showcases outstanding teamwork skills, prioritizes safety, and consistently displays courteous and cooperative conduct when engaging with both the public and staff. These attributes are essential for promoting efficiency, effectiveness, and harmony throughout the entire department and organization.
Qualifications:
Qualifications for this role include a high school diploma or GED, one (1) year of general maintenance experience, and the ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Continued employment is contingent upon the following required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation:
- State of Illinois Class B CDL within one (1) year of date of employment.
- Flagger certification within six (6) months of date of hire.
Other combinations of education and experience, which provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job, may be considered.
Hours and Compensation:
This is a full-time, non-exempt, union position that is represented by Teamsters Local Union 705. The annual salary range for this position is $61,318.40 – $83,033.60 per year, with the hiring range negotiable depending on prior experience. Regular working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Flexibility to work overtime and accessibility during off-hours for emergencies is required.
