What Does a Maintenance Worker – Forestry and Grounds – Arboriculture do?
Under general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor – Forestry & Grounds Division, performs varied manual and semi-skilled labor involving proper care, planting and removal of annual flower plantings and baskets, perennial landscape beds, trees, shrubs, bulbs and other vegetation, vegetation management, utilizing pesticides and/or mechanical methods, along village rights of way, including lawns, alleys and natural areas, snow plowing and salting of village streets and properties. Uses a variety of hand and power tools and operates a truck and other equipment in the accomplishment of work assignments. May work collectively as part of a crew, or individually as assigned.
As a part of the Public Works team, participates in a yearly paid on-call standby rotation addressing emergency response operations which may occur outside of regular work hours. Typical standby for Public Works currently involves being ‘on call’ from approximately Mid March through the end of November for a week at a time (seven days), approximately 2-3 separate weeks throughout that time period, and from approximately the end of November through Mid March for approximately 8 weeks of that 16 week period.”

Are You Qualified?
· Requires possession of a valid Illinois CDL Class “B” vehicle operator’s license with air brake and tanker endorsements or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months.
· Requires Illinois Pesticide Applicator License, or ability to obtain within six (6) months.
· Requires elementary knowledge of Arboriculture or Forestry practices.
· Requires elementary knowledge of the operation and care of tools and equipment used in Arboriculture and/or Forestry maintenance operations.
· Requires elementary knowledge of the vehicles, equipment, methods, procedures, tools and materials utilized in Public Works operations.
· Requires elementary knowledge of the hazards connected with Arboriculture and Public Works operations and correlative safety measures and precautions.
What Will I Get Paid?
This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. Starting wage range is $25.88/hr – $33.97/hr (DOQ).
