Village of Wheeling, Civil Engineer

The Village of Wheeling Public Works Department seeks qualified candidates for the position of Civil Engineer I.  This position designs and prepares engineering plans, specifications, permit applications and cost estimates for a variety of construction projects and improvements.  Prepares technical reports relevant to sanitary sewers, water mains, and storm drainage systems under Village jurisdiction and reviews studies as prepared by other agencies.  Reviews subdivision plans, plats, permits, and other legal documents for municipal code compliance.  Performs survey work.

 

Requires a Bachelors degree in civil engineering from an accredited four-year college or university and must possess a valid State of Illinois driver’s license.   Candidates must be registered as Engineer in Training in the State of Illinois.  Candidates should have at least one (1) – two (2) years of civil engineering or municipal engineering experience, with some IDOT experience.  Plus working knowledge of personal computers including Microsoft software/database applications and use of survey equipment, AutoCad, Autodesk, GPS and GIS systems.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various municipal staff, elected and appointed officials, consultants, contractors, vendors, and the general public.  An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.  Starting salary is $77,934.
