The Village of Wilmette is seeking to fill the position of seasonal Fire Hydrant Inspector working in the Engineering & Public Works Department during the summer months. This position will work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday for up to a 12-week period.
The Fire Hydrant Inspector will work under the general direction of the Water/Sewer Superintendent and will be responsible for inspecting fire hydrants for damage, lubricating and/or replacing hydrant caps, checking for obstructions around the fire hydrants, performing data entry and any other related work assignments.
The successful candidate must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., operate (open/close) fire hydrants, and remove/reinstall fire hydrant caps. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license and possess basic computer skills using Microsoft Word and Excel for data entry and be able to use an electronic tablet device (iPad) for outdoor work (i.e. read and record data attributes). Ability to use ArcGIS collector application is preferred. Individual must be able to read road maps or use GIS in order to locate fire hydrants within the Village limits. Position requires working outdoors, potentially during adverse weather conditions, extensive walking, and the ability to work independently.
The starting wage is $18.66 per hour.
Candidate should be prepared to undergo a pre-employment physical and back evaluation, drug and alcohol screening, reference checks, and driver’s license records verification.
