The Village of Wilmette is seeking reliable and detailed-oriented individual to fill the part-time Museum Assistant – Community Engagement Coordinator position with the Historical Museum. The Wilmette Historical Museum is located at 609 Ridge Road and was established by the Village of Wilmette in 1951. We seek an individual to assist with coordinating museum programs, events, and tours. This position will work an average of 21 hours per week under the supervision of the Museum Director.
General Responsibilities
The Museum Assistant will be responsible for assisting with planning, organizing, and publicizing programs and events sponsored by the museum, working with the membership program, managing official social media accounts, creating and presenting school tours and other community engagement programs. Responsibilities may include writing press releases; creating flyers; distributing materials; contacting potential speakers and presenters; creating new public programs, events, and tours; staffing events; managing the membership and donor program; and other related duties as assigned. This position requires significant contact with the public in person, via email and on the telephone.
Position Requirements
The successful candidate will be a college graduate with a degree in history, museum studies or a related field with customer service experience. Essential position requirements include the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, to interact with the general public in a courteous and professional manner, and the ability to prioritize, organize, and complete required duties in a timely and accurate manner. Candidate must be detail-oriented, flexible, and a team player. The candidate will possess a solid working knowledge of social media platforms, web-based computer software programs, and should be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel). Knowledge of InDesign, Past Perfect software, and video editing programs are a plus.
Compensation and Benefits
The 2025 starting hourly rate is $26.49 and 40 hours of paid time off (PTO) per year. This position includes participation in a retirement plan through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), Employee Assistance Program, Tuition Reimbursement, and ability to participate in deferred compensation plan (457 plan), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for medical, dependent care, and transportation expenses.
