Village of Wilmette, Police Telecommunicator

The Village of Wilmette is seeking to fill the full-time position of Police Telecommunicator (911 Operator). This position reports to the Police Communications Supervisor and must be available to work days, evenings, midnights, weekends and holidays.

General Responsibilities
This is a civilian position primarily responsible for the operation of the public safety radio and computer aided dispatch (CAD) systems, and handling requests for emergency service. The person in this position must be able to operate radio equipment, telephones
and computer systems in order to monitor, receive, and effectively transmit verbal emergency and non-emergency messages. This position will handle after-hour emergency calls for other Village departments, accept complaints from citizens, monitor the security and safety of prisoners, perform computerized data entry and other administrative tasks as required.

Position Requirements
The successful candidate will have completed some college and have at least two years of practical experience in a related field.
Essential position requirements include excellent communication and organizational skills and possess the ability to remain calm during stressful situations. Ideal candidate must clearly demonstrable written, oral, listening, and organizational skills. The position works under general supervision; consequently, the successful candidate should be self-motivated and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
The successful candidate shall be fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine and shall provide a copy of their COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card which shall be retained by the Village.

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range is $65,888 to $87,427 with a starting salary dependent on qualifications.
The Village offers excellent benefits which includes participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), medical, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, and voluntary participation in a deferred compensation program (457 plan), and paid time off.

Selection Process:
The selected candidate will receive a conditional offer of employment which is contingent on the successful completion of a psychological evaluation, polygraph, pre-employment physical with drug and alcohol testing, and a thorough background investigation.
