PROJECT MANAGER – ENGINEERING
The Village of Wilmette is seeking candidates for a full-time Project Manager – Engineer. Interested candidates should have experience in managing engineering projects with considerable knowledge of civil engineering principles and have excellent organizational, planning and time-management skills. This position will work as a staff member of the Engineering and Public Works Department, and report to the Village Engineer.
Wilmette is a beautiful, historic community located 16 miles north of downtown Chicago with convenient access to the Metra train station (Union Pacific North Line) which is steps away from Village Hall, as well as the CTA Purple Line. The community has approximately 28,000 residents and total area of 5.4 square miles.
This position will be responsible for preparing engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates for maintenance and Capital Improvement projects, such as streets, alleys, sewer, water, parking lots, pedestrian, and bicycle accommodations/enhancements. The project manager will be responsible for conducting inspections and ensuring projects conform to approved engineering plans, specifications, and Village Codes. This position will also be responsible for preparing and managing professional services contracts for services, such as environmental services, geotechnical engineering, land surveying, and supplemental design and construction services in support of federal, state and locally funded Capital Improvement projects. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, attending various board, commission, and staff meetings to provide technical advice on municipal engineering matters; communicating with the public regarding engineering and construction projects; preparing budget reports and Village Board memorandum, and assisting with plan reviews and inspections for various engineering permits.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field with a minimum of four years of full-time experience managing engineering design and construction projects. Professional Engineering licensure in the State of Illinois (P.E), or ability to obtain a P.E. license within six months of employment, is preferred.
Essential position requirements include excellent communication and organizational skills, detail-oriented, possess the ability to handle multiple and simultaneous projects and be able to develop positive working relationships with co-workers. Ideal candidate should possess comprehensive knowledge of the principals and practices of civil, municipal and transportation engineering as related to public improvements and be proficient using Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and surveying equipment. The candidate must have skill in preparing engineering plans, estimates and specifications for public improvement projects, have knowledge of modern construction practices and have the ability to prepare a variety of technical reports. Experience with ArcGIS is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $95,123 to $126,223 with a starting salary DOQ. The Village provides an excellent benefits package, including health, dental, vision and life insurance to include participation in IMRF. The successful candidate will undergo a pre-employment physical examination that includes a back evaluation, drug and alcohol screening, reference checks background investigation, and a driver’s license records check with the Secretary of State’s Office.
