The Village of Winnetka’s Water & Electric Department is seeking student applicants for the temporary position of Engineering Intern. This position is expected to begin work in late-May and continue through August (approximately 10 to 12 weeks). The Engineering Intern position will provide hands-on experience and is designed to promote knowledge of water and electrical distribution systems.
Primary Duties:
- Develop and maintain asset registries for water and electrical distribution equipment and infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain municipal contact list.
- Develop and administer municipal surveys.
- Develop written notices & communications of behalf of the Department
- Prepare detailed drawings and schematics under guidance of staff
- Assist with the digitization of Department records and processes.
- Assist with planning, design, construction and maintenance of the electric and water distribution systems
- Assist with field inspections.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age.
- Full-time student of sophomore status or higher pursuing a degree in a STEM field at an accredited college or university.
- Working knowledge of electrical or mechanical engineering principles.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products, and an ability to quickly learn additional software programs.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS systems, and other engineering software.
- Ability to read, clearly speak, and legibly write the English language.
- Valid driver’s license.
This is a temporary position for the summer months in 2025. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., 40 hours weekly. Work may be performed in outdoor conditions and/or in close proximity to vehicular traffic.
Hourly Rate Range: $20.00 – $25.00
