Job Summary:
The Village of Wonder Lake is seeking a dedicated and skilled Water Operator to join our Water Department. The Water Operator will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the municipal water supply system to ensure safe, clean, and reliable water services for the residents of Wonder Lake. Duties will be performed under the direct supervision of the Director of Water.
Key Responsibilities:
Operation & Maintenance:
- Operate and maintain water treatment facilities, wells, pumps, valves, and other related infrastructure.
- Overall operation of water facilities and equipment, daily inspections, sampling, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Perform routine inspections, adjustments, and repairs on water system
- Monitor and record a variety of water quality parameters, including chlorine levels, turbidity, and other treatment chemicals, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on equipment and facilities to minimize downtime and prevent interruptions in service.
Water Quality Monitoring:
- Collect and analyze water samples for laboratory testing as required by regulatory agencies.
- Adjust chemical dosages as necessary to maintain water quality
- Maintain accurate records of water quality testing, run times, flow rates, chemical usage, equipment performance, and maintenance activities.
Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal water quality
- Assist in compilation and preparation of reports to regulatory agencies as
Emergency Response:
- Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies and weekend and holiday rounds.
- Respond to water system emergencies, including water main breaks, equipment failures, and power outages, ensuring prompt restoration of services.
Public Interaction:
- Communicate effectively with residents regarding water services, including service interruptions, water conservation, and quality concerns.
- Respond to water quality complaints from residents and address issues
- Participate in community outreach programs and educational initiatives related to water conservation and safety.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training in water treatment or a related field preferred.
- Illinois Class C Water Operator License required (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in water system operation and
- Strong understanding of water treatment processes, distribution systems, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in the use of water treatment and testing
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a
- Valid Illinois driver’s license with a clean driving
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
