City of Oakbrook Terrace, City Administrator

The City of Oakbrook Terrace (pop. 2,714) is seeking an experienced and innovative leader to guide the advancement of the City’s strategic goals as its next City Administrator. The City has a $15 million budget for all funds and General Fund Budget of $11 million.

Qualifications

The Ideal candidate should have knowledge of all aspects of municipal government, including budget development policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws, and municipal finance practices. Candidates will possess the following, or have a combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Public Administration, or a related field; and,
  • Knowledge of municipal government practices and a strong understanding of government finance and budget development processes; and,
  • Knowledge of applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations; and,
  • Skilled in presenting professional views and carrying out decisions in a timely and professional manner; and,
  • Strong leadership abilities with a proven track record of collaboration, team building, and consensus building; and,
  • Self-confidence and strength to provide administrative insights, counsel and make recommendations to the Mayor, City Council, and staff; and,
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible related experience, including supervisory.

Candidates should have a proven record of maintaining effective working relationships with employees, City officials, other government agencies, and key stakeholders, and effectively advocating for and representing the City’s interests. Ideal candidates should possess highly developed communication skills and demonstrated ability to recommend and implement policy through the effective management of available resources. Must have the ability to monitor and manage one’s own work to ensure quality, accuracy and thoroughness; use sound judgment to lead with authority, as well as an openness to process improvement and commitment to innovation.

The City also offers a generous benefit package which includes ample paid time off as well as competitive health insurance options and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund program (IMRF). The compensation range for this position is $150,000-$170,000, starting pay is negotiable with anticipated starting pay up to the midpoint.
