The City of Palos Heights is seeking applications from highly qualified individuals for the position of City Administrator. Palos Heights is a southwest suburb of the City of Chicago with a population of 12,068 residents.
The position is appointed by and reports to the Mayor and City Council. Some responsibilities of the Administrator include financial management and budgeting, contract negotiations, economic development activities, human resource administration, overseeing city department activities on a day to day basis, and attending committee and City Council meetings.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess a working knowledge of all government operations, including budget development policies and procedures, significant knowledge of mission and operation of various City Departments and municipal finance practices. Candidates will possess the following or have a combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job:
- Bachelor Degree in Public Administration or related field, Master preferred; and,
- Ten years of progressively responsible local government experience, and a minimum five years experience in a top management position, preferable as the chief administrative officer; and,
- Knowledge of applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations; and,
- Strong leadership abilities with a proven track record of collaboration, team building, and consensus building; and,
- Experience working in a suburban environment with multiple neighboring communities and public service jurisdictions.
In addition, the selected candidate will need to possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. With the ability to work effectively with employees, city officials, community residents and other government agencies.
The salary range for this position is $140,000 – $190,000, based on qualifications and experience. The City also offers a generous benefit package which includes paid time off as well as competitive health insurance options, the ability to participate in a 457 deferred comp plan, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund program (IMRF).
