Village of Antioch, Building Inspector

Overview:
The Village of Antioch is seeking qualified and team-oriented applicants for the position of a full-time Building Inspector in the Community Development Department. Under the supervision of the Director of Community Development, this position is responsible for conducting residential, commercial and industrial building inspections, plan review, and code enforcement and compliance. The position is also involved in responding to citizen concerns, and interacting with residents, contractors and business owners in a courteous, professional and effective manner.

The ideal candidate will have excellent time management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills as well as interpersonal, verbal, and written communication. Must have a general knowledge of building construction principles and practices, and a significant understanding of building, plumbing and zoning and related codes. Candidates will also have the ability to understand village code and ordinances with the skill to determine code violations and issue appropriate corrective actions, particularly with property maintenance, annual business licensing inspections, and sign enforcement. Qualified applicants will also possess a working knowledge of web-based software programs and Microsoft Office products. Offs-site and field inspections will require the use of a tablet or other electronic device. A valid driver’s license is required. Full position description available upon request.

Qualifications:
Minimum of High School diploma or GED, and valid Illinois or Wisconsin driver’s license with a good driving record required. Two years of related construction or architectural design from an accredited community college or trade school and electrical experience preferred. Certification from the International Code Council as a Certified Building Official, or the ability to achieve IRC and/or IBC certification within two years required.

Salary & Benefits:
The salary range for the position is $25.19-30.59/hour, dependent on qualifications. An excellent benefits
