Village of Lisle, Assistant Public Works Director

The Village of Lisle is seeking its next Assistant Public Works Director to help lead the Public Works Department. This position requires a professional who prioritizes efficient operations, possesses a technical background, and maintains a level of enthusiasm to drive organizational improvements.

The Assistant Public Works Director will aid the Public Works Director with a variety and broad spectrum of activities from the daily operations of the Public Works Department to developing a long range, strategic plan. The department budget is approximately $6.5 million with a staff of 26 full-time employees. This position will provide administrative and technical assistance to the department and will be responsible for supervising the Village’s engineering, facilities, and fleet maintenance operations, which includes directly supervising 2 employees and indirectly supervising approximately 3 employees.

The Assistant Public Works Director will report directly to the Public Works Director and coordinate and supervise the Engineering Division activities which will include a focus on the preparation, review and approval of construction plans, oversight of outside engineering consultants, and review of private development projects. Managing capital plans and related budgets, in collaboration with the Financial Services Department, will also be a part of this role.

A Bachelor’s degree is required.  A Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Engineering, or a similar field is preferred. A minimum of three years of Public Works/Engineering experience in a municipality, including supervisory experience, in a community of comparable complexity. Must possess and maintain a valid Illinois driver’s license. Three to five years of experience in roadway, sidewalk, stormwater facility and other infrastructure construction preferred, current license as an Illinois Professional Engineer a plus.

This is FLSA exempt position with an excellent benefit package, including health and life insurance, IMRF pension, vacation time, paid holidays and sick days. The hiring salary range for this position is $104,459 to $146,242 DOQ.
