The Village of Wilmette seeks an experienced and reliable professional to fill the parttime Code Enforcement Officer position in the Community Development Department. The person in this position is expected to work an average of 24 hours per week to include
some weekends during the summer months.
General Responsibilities
The person in this position is responsible for conducting inspections and enforcing compliance of local laws, regulations and ordinances pertaining to the physical condition and appearance of properties and the use of gas-powered leaf blowers. The successful candidate will assist in conducting plan reviews. Position will respond to complaints, code violations and address questions about leaf blower regulations. In addition, the person in this position will be responsible for preparing letters of notice to violators, notices of court action and citations, and testifying in administrative court on behalf of the Village for such violations. This position involves working outdoors and significant contact with the public, residents and communication via in person, telephone and written correspondence.
Position Requirements
The successful candidate should have some experience with zoning or code enforcement and public relations; a bachelor’s degree is preferred. A combination of experience, training and education will be considered. This position requires work outdoors and
extensive walking. In addition, the ability to speak a second language is a plus.
Essential position requirements include the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, to interact with the general public in a courteous and professional manner, and the ability to prioritize, organize, and complete required duties timely and
accurately. Candidate must be detail oriented, flexible, and a team player. The candidate will possess a working knowledge of web-based computer software programs, and should be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel), and tablet for field work.
Compensation and Benefits:
The hourly range for this position is between $38.40 to $50.97 with the starting rate DOQ.
This position includes 40 hours of paid time off (PTO), participation in a retirement plan through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the ability to participate in medical, dependent care and transportation flexible

Selection Process
Candidates should be prepared to undergo multiple interviews and a written exam related to tasks that may be encountered on the job. The successful candidate will undergo a pre-employment physical to include drug and alcohol screening, reference checks, and a driver’s license records verification.
