Village of Winnetka, Seasonal Laborer

Winnetka’s Public Works Department is seeking applicants for the temporary full-time position of Seasonal Laborer. Key responsibilities include: performing unskilled labor in the Streets, Sewer, Refuse divisions; operating a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of water, sanitary sewer, street, and storm drainage facilities and systems.

Primary Duties:

  • Perform pavement maintenance, repair, removal, and disposal.
  • Perform parkway/roadside maintenance removal of leaves, stump cuttings, backfilling, repairing, and seeding disturbed parkway areas.
  • Perform refuse and yard waste collection duties.
  • Sidewalk removal, replacement, and repairs.
  • Brush and bush trimming; mowing roadside vegetation.
  • Assist with installing traffic control, street signage, and pavement markings.
  • Patch cracks in underground vaults and manholes; brush or spray walls with waterproof compounds.
  • Lift, carry, and/or wheel heavy material.
  • Read maps, blueprints, and take measurements.
  • Provide janitorial services at Village facilities.
  • Assist with leaf collection.
  • Assist with snow and ice operations as needed.
  • Assist with special events as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • One to three months related experience or training preferred.
  • Working knowledge of general public works labor and/or construction activities.
  • Must be able to life and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to read, clearly speak, and legibly write the English language.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

This is a temporary full-time position not to exceed 999 working hours. Typical work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 40 hours weekly, Monday through Friday.  Work is performed in outdoor weather conditions and in close proximity to vehicular traffic.

Hourly Rate Range: $20 – $25 per hour depending on qualifications.
