Village of Northbrook, Senior Human Resources Generalist

Northbrook, IL (population 35,222) is seeking an experienced Senior Human Resources Generalist who will be part of a newly created HR team serving an organization of 275+ employees. This department is charged with promoting the core values of customer service, teamwork, integrity, respect, and trust with the goal of providing excellent services and programs within the Village organization. The Senior Human Resources Generalist under the general direction of the Human Resources Director will support the delivery of human resources services in the organization with a focus on recruitment and selection, personnel records management, risk management and workers compensation. The department will offer centralized support for employees and retirees.

  • The Village of Northbrook is a complex municipal organization of seven departments which include the Managers Office, Finance, IT, Development and Planning Services, Fire Police and Public Works. The village is staffed by 275 full time positions, 8.5 permanent part-time positions and 8.75 seasonal part-time positions and is party to four collective bargaining agreements.
  • The Senior HR Generalist will join a newly established team lead by the newly hired Director of Human Resources; also joining that team will be an Employee Support Coordinator. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills, coordinate all aspects to the recruitment and selection of non-sworn positions, offer support and coordination of the Board of Police and Fire Commission activities, administer the compensation program, and support special projects and provide general assistance to the operations of the Human Resources division of the Village Manager’s Office providing consistency of workplace practices, policies, and regulations; they will lead an effort to improve records management. They will support the Human Resources Director in collective bargaining (research, analysis) and related labor relations activities.
  • Candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Organizational Management, Leadership and/or Business or Public Administration or closely related field. A master’s degree is preferred. Three (3) years of experience in human resources; public sector or municipal experience is a plus. IPMA, SPHRM, SPHR or PHR credentials are valued.

Starting salary range is $105,000 to $115,00 depending on qualifications and experience. Northbrook offers an excellent benefits package.
