Fire Department Management Analyst – Buffalo Grove, IL (pop. 43,212). Progressive municipal government seeks a Management Analyst with exceptional analytical and interpersonal skills to provide administrative support to administrative staff within the  Village’s Fire Department.

The Buffalo Grove Fire Department (BGFD) is one of fewer than 325 agencies worldwide to achieve “Internationally Accredited Agency” status with the CFAI and the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Inc. (CPSE). The Fire Department consists of 57 full-time firefighters/paramedics, and officers and four full-time and two part-time civilian staff and maintains an ISO 2 rating. The senior staff consists of the Fire Chief, a Deputy Fire Chief, three Shift Battalion Chiefs, one Staff Battalion Chiefs (Training/Safety), an Administrative Secretary, an EMS Coordinator, and a Management Analyst.  The Department’s mission is to provide professional services with Commitment, Loyalty, Integrity, and Pride.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

This position has significant responsibilities within the Fire Department, including, but not limited to the following:

  • Performing research and statistical analysis of department and division performance to benchmark against other agencies
  • Performing research and statistical analysis of department programs toward the goal of accreditation
  • Developing and monitoring departmental budgets and Capital Improvement Plan
  • Preparing Fire Department long range strategic planning documents
  • Preparing the Fire Department’s Annual Report
  • Providing back-up for answering and directing telephone calls, payroll, ambulance billing, CPR scheduling and other duties as assigned in the absence of the Administrative Assistant
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all privileged information

Duties also include, but are not limited to, assistance with preparing Village Board agenda materials; Village website content development and maintenance; program evaluation/research; project management; assistance with the development and production of the annual budget; and policy/procedure development by performing routine administrative support functions, conducting research and detailed program analysis, researching best practices and industry trends, and identifying process improvements.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, political science, public policy, or a related field. Master’s level course work and/or a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, human resource management, political science, or a related field. Master’s Degree is strongly desired, but not required.  An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience is also acceptable. Candidates for the position must possess a current and valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

Qualified applicants Must have the ability to work independently and be self-motivated. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to translate and explain technical matters to interested parties.  Must be highly organized and proficient in managing confidential and/or protected records and files in electronic formats.

Salary range for this position is $73,072.48 – $108,902.56, with excellent benefits.
