Kenilworth, IL (pop. 2,514) This beautiful, historic community along Chicago’s north shore seeks experienced, professional candidates to apply for the position of Village Manager. The Village of Kenilworth is located 17 miles north of downtown Chicago in Cook County and is one of the area’s premier suburbs with excellent schools, a beautiful beach along Lake Michigan, and winding tree lined streets with stately homes.

The Village has 17 full-time and 8 part-time employees, an annual operating budget of $6 million, and operating departments including Police, Public Works, and Finance (contract) and Administration. The Village Manager supervises the Public Works Director and the Assistant to the Village Manager who supervises building and planning services, the Police Chief reports to the Village President and Board of Trustees. The Village contracts with the Village of Winnetka for Fire and EMS services. The Village Manager is appointed by and reports to the Village President and a six-member Board of Trustees, elected at-large to staggered four-year terms. The Village has had four managers since 1990.

  • Candidates will be expected to be established leaders with demonstrated command of municipal operations, particularly financial management, including capital planning and public works operations.
  • Kenilworth expects a highly engaged, approachable village manager who will demonstrate commitment to service excellence demonstrating a resourceful “can-do” attitude.
  • The position requires a bachelor’s degree in public policy, business administration, finance, or related field. A master’s degree is strongly preferred. A minimum of five years service in local government in an executive leadership position is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal skills, an approachable, welcoming style with the community and staff, and a proven record in effective service delivery and creative problem solving.
  • Refined written and public presentation skills, and a collaborative, team-oriented management style are essential.

Residency is not required. Salary: $180,000+/- DOQ, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus and excellent benefits package.
